Baseball, Team Spirit and a Whole Lotta Fun
At nFuse, we don’t just work hard—we also make time to build team spirit. This past Saturday, September 28th, we took a break from our usual routine to head over to Sharks Tongeren for an unforgettable day of baseball, laughter, and bonding. While we’re passionate about delivering excellent service to our clients, we know that a robust and connected team is critical to our success.
Kicking (Throwing? Batting?) Off the Day
The day kicked off at 11:30 AM when we were greeted by Rutger, our Head nFuzer and a coach at Sharks Tongeren, alongside baseball coach Hans P. They gave us a tour of the Sharks’ facilities and introduced us to baseball techniques and safety rules. This was completely new territory for many of us, but we were up for the challenge!
Before diving into the action, we fueled up with hotdogs and drinks. Then, it was time to get our hands on some gear. After fitting our gloves and warming up, we learned the basics of throwing and catching—much more challenging than it seems! From there, we moved on to stretching, batting technique, and a quick overview of the game’s rules. With Rutger and Hans P. guiding us through every step, we were set up for success.
As with everything we do at nFuse, teamwork and clear communication were key. This was especially evident during the blindfolded slalom exercise, where we had to rely on our colleagues to navigate us through obstacles and hit the ball. It was a great reminder of how essential collaboration is in our day-to-day work, and it gave us plenty of laughs in the process.
“Despite the cold and rain, the day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and some surprising baseball skills from the team!” – Dorien
Speedy Balls and Burgers
One of the day’s highlights was stepping into the batting cage. Arif was the first to bravely face pitches, flying 110 km/h. Others followed suit. While some of us succeeded more than others, it was an exhilarating experience! The rain started just as we were in the cage, which wasn’t the most fun part of the day, but we powered through, showing the same resilience we apply to solving IT challenges.
Rutger and Hans P. wrapped up the session with an impressive display of their skills, leaving us all in awe. Meanwhile, some team members took a well-deserved break in the dugout, while the die-hards—Sam, Rafik, Glenn, and Yns—returned to the field, all while staying true to our company’s values of customer service and teamwork practice. Fielding, as we quickly learned, requires a whole different set of skills, but they tackled it with the same commitment that defines our proactive approach at nFuse.
At nFuse, we believe in unburdening our customers and taking care of technical issues so they can focus on running their businesses. This same mindset was on display throughout the day, whether we were learning how to pitch or trying to hit the ball. With clear communication and the top-notch guidance of Rutger and Hans P., we could focus on having fun and improving our skills.
As the afternoon came to a close, Rutger had to head off to celebrate his son’s birthday (happy birthday again!), while the rest of us moved on to The Filling Station for a well-deserved American-style dinner. We shared stories, laughed about the day’s challenges, and enjoyed good food. Coach Hans P. even joined us, rounding out the day with more camaraderie.
Closing and Thanks
Even though the weather was a bit chilly and the rain during the batting cage added an extra layer of difficulty, it didn’t dampen our spirits. The entire day was a brilliant example of how we embody nFuse’s core value of continuous improvement—whether in the office or on the field, we’re always learning, growing, and pushing ourselves to be better.
A huge thank you goes to Sharks Baseball Tongeren and Coach Hans P. for their incredible hospitality, and of course, to Rutger for organising and guiding us through the day.
We may have sore muscles, but we also walked away with big smiles, new skills, and a stronger team spirit than ever. We’re already looking forward to the next adventure!
